Why did I choose to be a designer?

JOB MARKET IS SO HARD AND COMPETITIVE! GAHHHHHHHH. I’m looking at other people’s portfolios and I wanna cry.

Oh, and my online portfolio isn’t working right now because I forgot to renew my domain last month. :( Now Go Daddy says I must pay up $80 to keep my website and I gotz no moneyz

Should I… pay $80 to keep kat-chan.com? Or $20 for a new domain name? I’m pretty attached to “kat-chan” though. =\

Review: AIGA Portfolio Day

I met some top-notch designers. For some reason, I got reviewed by some of the bigger companies like Apple, Oracle, and Samsung. x______x It was definitely less intimidating than I thought. I’m just super glad they didn’t rip my work in half and yell like “YOU FAIL AS A DESIGNER, I CAN’T LOOK AT THIS ANYMORE!” Yeah, I heard a lot of horror stories about Portfolio Day where reviewers just demoralized and cut you in half. Thank goodness that didn’t happen to me. :D

Portfolio Day has got me thinking that if I really want to pursue what I want to do, I’m gonna have to get out of my comfort zone. Many of the professionals I talked with didn’t start off doing what they wanted to do but had to work their way up there. There is this common misconception that every undergraduate student is SUPPOSED to land their dream job after they graduate… which was definitely NOT the case from the professionals I met. Furthermore, I plan to take every advice given to me like a grain of salt and apply it to my life experiences, starting with Disney later this month.

Overall, I am very happy and satisfied I went. I recommend any graphic designer to attend this annual event as you get great feedbacks and critiques from real professionals. **Okay, time to start on my 10 page Soc paper that I haven’t started yet (that’s due on Wed)**

I'm an ordinary person who lives to give, not receive. Service is my passion. Disney is my love. Design is my life.

In addition to that, my 96 Chandler babies mean a lot to me.
